Eight Deuce Rules & By-Laws

Updated 10/4/2024 to reflect new league rules

I - Mission Statement

The mission of Eight Deuce (8-2) is to provide a recreational outlet for residents of Parker, Colorado and non-resident members. Our goal is to encourage fair and friendly participation in the game of poker, as well as organizing games and tournaments for the enjoyment of its members.

II - Club Structure

  1. Tournament Director (TD) - Responsible for organizing monthly tournaments and keeping members informed of upcoming games, managing invitations & RSVPs, as well as making rulings on aberrations and rule violations at league tournaments.

  1. Statistician - Responsible for accurate assignment of season points and related record keeping.

  1. Treasurer - Responsibilities shall include collection and safekeeping of all dues and entry fees, as well as making pay-outs to winners according to individual and season guidelines set by the Regular members. In the event that the Treasurer is unable to attend a tournament, the TD will assume the responsibilities of Treasurer for that tournament.

  1. Committee Member - The 8-2 League Committee will consist of five (5) league members. These committee members must be consulted when proposing new rules and will vote on these rules. Rules may be amended by a simple majority vote by all committee members. When required, member votes may also be taken by email poll as long as a reasonable time limit to vote is set.

III - Fees

  1. League Fees are $250 per season. League Fees are used to provide snacks and supplies for each monthly tournament, and for catering the Annual Tournament.

  1. League Fees must be paid by the member prior to playing in their first game of the season. League Fees will not be prorated for any reason. Deferred payments or other payment options will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

  1. Individual tournament entry fee is $60 per member, per entry.

  1. Individual tournament fees shall be collected before the start of each tournament.

  1. The 8-2 has a "no profit motive", per Colorado law, meaning that the entire remaining balance of the League Fees (after supplies & catering) will be paid out at the Annual Tournament or rolled over to the next season, at the discretion of the League Committee.

IV - League Season Structure

  1. Each season will consist of 10 games, scheduled to be played on the second Friday of every month, excluding November & December. The Annual Tournament will be held on the second Saturday in November. (Subject to change)

  1. The first tournament of a season will be held in January, and final season tournament will be in October.

  1. All members in good standing, having paid their annual League Fee, are eligible to play in the Annual Tournament, regardless of the number of season tournaments participated in.

V - Tournament Structure

  1. Rules for structuring the individual tournaments that comprise each season will stay consistent throughout the season unless otherwise agreed upon by the League Committee.

  1. The Blind Structure for each league tournament is posted here.

  1. Each member will have one (1) opportunity to rebuy before the end of the 2nd break. Any chips that a player has at the time a rebuy is requested shall be forfeited and replaced with a full stack.

  1. Host provides cards, chips, tables, chairs, snacks, water, and other supplies (such as plates & utensils). Beer and/or other alcoholic beverages will not be provided by the host, but members may bring their own beverages.

  1. On occasion, a game may have to be postponed. When this occurs, the TD will schedule the make-up game far enough in advance for all players to adjust their schedules accordingly.

  1. RSVPs are required to join a tournament. Seating will be drawn at random prior to the start of the tournament based on RSVP to the invitation. Invitees will be removed from the invite list if they fail to open/respond to 3 consecutive invites.

  1. Deadline to RSVP to tournament is noon on the day before a tournament. No additional entries will be allowed after that time. However, a player is always allowed to back out of a tournament at any time prior to the start of that tournament.

  1. Deadline for late entry is the end of the first break. Any member that has RSVP'd in the positive that does not arrive before the end of the first break will be removed from the tournament and will be ineligible to participate. (See rule VI, 2b below)

  1. Special tournaments may be organized outside the structure of the season tournaments but would not contribute to season points totals.

VI - Game Rules

  1. Unless otherwise specified, club game rules shall default to Poker Tournament Directors Association (2015 Rules, Version 1.0, Aug. 20, 2015). Otherwise, rules shall follow those generally accepted. (See Poker TDA Rules)

  1. Special Rules - the following are special club rules that augment, supersede or otherwise replace Poker TDA regarding particular issues.

    1. Rule 6 - "...seats will be randomly assigned" by the tournament management software used by the league.

    2. Rule 7 - "...players registering late, and re-entries will be sold full stacks..." Rebuys will forfeit any remaining chips at time of rebuy. (See Rule V.3 above)

    3. Rule 11 - Final table will always seat 4 players, as we are incorporating a modified shootout format.

    4. Rule 23 - Short stacks will be upgraded to lowest denomination now in play.

    5. Rule 25 addendum - Players may request a wash of the deck at any time, but per the rule, not a deck change.

    6. A player being called on the final round of betting must show his entire hand without delay.

    7. In order to qualify as a winning hand, any hand must be shown in its entirety. No withholding single cards.

    8. Rule 62 addendum - Players not actively participating in a hand should refrain from speaking about the hand until play is complete. The exception is, per Rule 12 of Poker TDA, "Any player in the hand or not, should speak up if he thinks a mistake is being made in reading hands or awarding the pot."

    9. Club will be following Poker TDA RP-1 (All-in Buttons).

  1. For all situations, Rule VI-1 above may be applied at TD’s discretion.

VII - Points Structure

  1. Points are awarded on a points up/down system. Points go up as the players are knocked out according to this distribution.

  1. Players that rebuy into a tournament receive a 20% penalty on their final point total for that tournament.

  1. Points are accrued for every tournament a player participates in during a season; however, only a player's top 8 tournament scores will be used to determine the Player of the Year. Player of the Year will receive free entry into the Annual Tournament.

  1. A player has until the beginning of the following league game to ask for a re-evaluation of points awarded. Once the following game begins, if no objections have been raised, the prior games points are considered official and will not be adjusted. In the case where it is evident that a legitimate accounting error has occurred by the upload of points, the TD will encode the proper points and send an immediate email to all members of the league or post the change to the main page of the league.

VII - Eligibility

  1. Only residents of Parker, Colorado are eligible to play in the 8-2. This serves as a "bona fide social relationship" based upon some common interest other than the poker activity, per Colorado law.

  1. Any player that is not a resident of Parker, Colorado but has a "bona fide social relationship" with more than one member shall be considered eligible to play in Eight Deuce. Exceptions may be allowed on a case-by-case basis, pending a simple majority vote by the League Committee members.

  1. New resident members will be introduced by invitation only. All potential new members will be voted on by the League Committee and must have unanimous agreement to allow a potential new member to join the league.

  1. No new members will be introduced in the September or October games.

VIII - Removal from League

  1. If any player feels that another player is a detriment to the overall quality of the league (repeated over-intoxication, taunting, overly obnoxious behavior, cheating, etc), they may propose to the League Committee that the player be removed from the league. If that proposal is seconded by one or more members, the League Committee will then put it up for a vote. At that point, a majority will carry the vote to remove.

  1. If, for any reason, a player is deemed no longer welcome to participate, it is the responsibility of the member that initially invited the player to communicate that decision to the player. (Depending on the circumstances, at the League Committee's discretion)
