The Man With the Most Knockouts Finishes Second. Again.

Third time in four tournaments — and Justin Vaughn wins his first in twenty-six months.

In January Mike McEvoy made seven knockouts and finished second. In February Lee Ugarte made eight and finished second. On Friday Mike Conner made five of the fourteen and finished second, and Justin Vaughn, who made three, won it.

Justin took $325 after four hours and twenty-three minutes and a twenty-two-minute heads-up match — the longest finish since September. It is his second Eight Deuce win, twenty-six months after his first, and both are the only wins of his career.

Conner took $230. He has now finished second twice here, in the 2022 finale and this one, and won neither; his two career wins both came at Canterberry, one of them in the very first tournament that league ever played.

Shawn Miller was third for $155 and Warren Mervin, who won last month, fourth for $110.

Steve Sarbaugh bubbled in fifth, his best result in four Eight Deuce tournaments. Lee Ugarte went twelfth, and Paul Coffman was the first player out after ninety-three minutes.

The bigger picture

Thirteen players and two rebuys made $820, the smallest pool since last September.

Four tournaments, four different winners, and Warren Mervin takes the lead on 184.86 — seven ahead of Lee Ugarte, who has led since January.
