Mike McEvoy Wins His First in Two Years, and Shawn Miller Takes Five Scalps for Third

Seven tournaments, seven different winners — nobody has repeated yet.

Mike McEvoy made five knockouts and won $420 after five hours and twenty-nine minutes, his first Eight Deuce win since September 2023. It is his third here and the fifth of his career.

Warren Mervin lost the nine-minute heads-up match and took $275, his second final of the season after winning in March.

Shawn Miller made five knockouts of his own — as many as the winner — and finished third for $185. He has cashed three times in seven tournaments this season and has not won one since March 2022. Steve Sarbaugh was fourth for $140 without a knockout, his second cash in this league after a third place last August.

Eric Denny, who won in May and was second in June, bubbled in fifth. Lee Ugarte made two knockouts and went twelfth.

Sean Denny was the first player out in his fourth tournament, having rebought.

The bigger picture

Seven tournaments, seven different winners. That has never happened here — the previous best start was five before a repeat, and the most any full season has produced is eight.

Sixteen players and three rebuys made $1,020, which ends a six-tournament run above $1,100 but keeps the season at $8,520 after seven nights. That is within $400 of everything 2024 paid out across ten.
