Canterberry Poker League · Tournament #3
Warren Takes Out Half the Room
Five of the ten eliminations, and a third winner in three tournaments.
Ten players had to be eliminated. Warren Mervin handled five of them personally. He played four and a half hours, arrived at heads-up with a stack nobody could dent and finished it in five minutes and sixteen seconds, for $105 and his first win in this league.
The man opposite him got there without putting out a single player. Mike Short spent the night surviving rather than hunting, and it carried him all the way to second and $60 — a month after going out first.
Chris Johnson made it three cashes from three tournaments, third for $35 with two knockouts, and Rick Mazza took fourth and $20 for a second money finish in a row. Mazza had three knockouts of his own — more than the runner-up, and second only to the winner. On a different night that is a different result.

The undercard
Mike Conner bubbled in fifth, which ends a perfect start — first, second, and now the wrong side of the money for the first time. Dan Myers was sixth and Eric Denny seventh.
Lee Ugarte took eighth, Mandy Denny ninth and Tom Wiegel tenth on his first league night. Chris Huey went out first after an hour and nineteen minutes, a month on from cashing in fourth — and it was Chris Johnson who sent him.
The bigger picture
Three tournaments, three different winners, and the top of the standings is a dead heat: Mike Conner and Chris Johnson are level on 29 points, with Warren and Mazza tied ten behind.
Seven nights left. Nobody has won twice, and the four men at the top have taken seven of the ten paid places handed out so far — two of them, Warren and Mazza, having sat one tournament out apiece.
