Nineteen Tournaments, Eight Cashes, and Now a Win
Charlie Drotar took out half the field on his way to a first victory two years in the making.
Charlie Drotar has been cashing in this league since October 2009 without ever winning one — seven money finishes, a runner-up, two thirds, and nothing better. On Friday he put out six of the twelve who went home, played four hours and forty-two minutes, and closed it in twelve minutes heads-up for $117.
Nineteen league tournaments, and the nineteenth was the one.
Josh Reel was second for $65, a second money finish in a row. Tom Buzbee took third and $41 with two knockouts, and David Doole completed the money in fourth for $24 — two cashes from three tournaments this season, and he still has not won one.
The undercard
Mandy Denny bubbled in fifth. Lee Ugarte was the first player out after two hours and eleven minutes, which for a man who won two tournaments last season is a quiet start to this one — tenth, then thirteenth.
