Greg Howell Wins in His Second Tournament
Six knockouts from a man who had played here once before. Last month’s winner went out first.
Greg Howell played his first Canterberry Poker League tournament in July and finished eleventh of fifteen. On Friday he played his second, knocked out six of the nineteen-man field, and won it for $95 in four and a half hours.
Setting aside the opening season, when everybody was new, only two players had ever won inside their first two appearances: Scott Dishong on debut in 2012 and Kenny Jones on debut in 2013. Greg is the third. Clay Yawn won in his fourth attempt back in March.
Paul Coffman was second for $65 with three knockouts, three months after winning the season opener with nine. Steve McLean took third and $45, his third cash in four tournaments, which puts him back on top of the standings.
Rick Mazza was fourth for $35, a second money finish in a row, and Duane Barone completed the money in fifth for $25.

The undercard
Josh Reel bubbled in sixth. Lori Mazza finished eighth with two knockouts, including the two men who came seventeenth and eighteenth. Scott Dishong was the first player out after an hour and two minutes — five weeks after winning with nine knockouts of his own.
The bigger picture
Four tournaments, four different winners, and two of the four had never won here before this season.
Steve McLean leads on 66 points, five ahead of Paul Coffman and seven ahead of Josh Reel and Andrew Shier, who are level on 59. All four have played all four. Greg sits sixth on 34 from two.
