Canterberry Poker League · Tournament #60

Josh Reel Makes It Three at the Top

Three tournaments, three winners, and each of them arrived at seven career wins in turn. Rick Mazza took the league.

Friday, April 11, 2014 14 players $280 prize pool 4 paid

Josh Reel closed the season with five knockouts, four hours and twelve minutes, and $135 — his seventh Canterberry Poker League win. It leaves three men tied at the top of the all-time list, and the last three tournaments of the year put each of them there.

Eric Denny got to seven in February, Warren Mervin in March, and Josh in April. None of them can claim it alone.

Doug Klich was second for $75 after a twenty-six-minute heads-up match. He has played five league tournaments and cashed in two of them, and both were runner-up finishes. Charlie Drotar took third and $45, and Dawn Bjork completed the money in fourth for $25 — her fifth cash of the season, as many as anybody managed.

The undercard

Scott Dishong bubbled in fifth. Rick Mazza finished eighth, which was not what he wanted on the night and did not matter in the slightest. Steve Drown was the first player out after an hour and three minutes.

The bigger picture

Ten tournaments, eight different winners. Brian Albers and Josh Reel won two each; nobody won three.

Rick Mazza is the 2013-14 League Champion and takes the trophy, finishing on 94 points from all ten tournaments — a win, three seconds and a fourth. He is the sixth different champion in the six seasons this league has run, and no one has won it twice.

Dawn Bjork was second on 88, having led the standings after two separate nights and played every tournament. Erik Treiber finished third on 71 from five appearances, half as many as the two men above him.
