Eight Deuce · Tournament #29
Mike McEvoy Knocks Out Six of Twelve and Wins His Second of the Year
The points leader went out first; the man who beat everyone else had never cashed here until February.
Mike McEvoy made six of the twelve eliminations on Friday and won $310 for it, his second Eight Deuce win of the season and the fourth of his career. He knocked out the players who finished second, third, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth — effectively the entire back half of the final table.
The heads-up match took twenty-eight minutes, the longest since 2022. Juan Lopez lost it and took $220, his third final-two finish in five starts this year.
Warren Mervin rebought and came third for $145 without a knockout, his third top-four of the season. Eric Denny made three knockouts and was fourth for $105.
Where the money went
| Player | Prize | |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Mike McEvoy | $310 |
| 2 | Juan Lopez | $220 |
| 3 | Warren Mervin | $145 |
| 4 | Eric Denny | $105 |
The undercard
Paul Coffman bubbled in fifth. Josh Reel, who won last month, went tenth.
Jeff Holderman, who leads the Player of the Year race and had cashed in five tournaments running, was the first player out after ninety-five minutes.
The bigger picture
Twelve players and a single rebuy made $780, matching April for the smallest pool of the year.
Nine tournaments, seven winners, and now two men have two each — Holderman and Mike McEvoy. Holderman’s bad night cost him nothing at all, because a tenth score of 10.00 does not make anyone’s best eight; he still leads on 300.39, fifty ahead of McEvoy with one tournament to play.
