Greg Howell’s Fourth, and the Knockout Leader Loses Again
Lance Cain took out six of the twenty and finished fourth. It is the fourth time in seven tournaments this season that the biggest total has missed the win.
Greg Howell won his fourth Canterberry Poker League tournament with four knockouts — three hours and fifty-two minutes, $160, fifteen months after his third. Five times he has made four knockouts or more in a night; four of those are his four wins, and the fifth was a runner-up in September 2016. Every other night of his career has produced two or fewer.
Jeff Ferguson was second for $100, losing the heads-up match in three minutes flat. It is his third runner-up finish — after September 2017 and October — and in twenty-four league tournaments he has not won one.
Steve McLean took third and $70 without a knockout. Lance Cain was fourth for $40 having made six, more than anyone in the room, and Lee Ugarte completed the money in fifth for $30 with three.

The undercard
Angela Cain bubbled in sixth in her second league tournament, with a knockout — she put out Andrew Shier, last season’s champion, in thirteenth. Her husband Lance Cain finished two places above her, and he had put out both Lee Ugarte in fifth and Angela Cain herself.
Jeff Holderman was the first player out after twenty-eight minutes and thirty-two seconds, the fourth-quickest exit this league has seen.
The bigger picture
Seven tournaments, five different winners. Only Dale Ellicott and Josh Martin have won twice.
Dale leads on 102 points from six starts, five ahead of Rick Mazza, who has played seven. Jeff Ferguson is third on 87 and Juan Lopez fourth on 85, and neither of them has ever won a league tournament.
