Fifty-One Months On, Shawn Miller Wins His Second

Seven knockouts, including everyone else in the top five — and the biggest pool of the season.

Shawn Miller won an Eight Deuce tournament in March 2022 and had not won another. On Friday he made seven knockouts — the players who finished second, third, fourth, fifth, ninth and thirteenth among them — and won $580 after four hours and forty-six minutes.

It is his second win, fifty-one months after the first, and the second of his career.

Josh Reel lost the thirteen-minute heads-up match and took $370, his best Friday result since he won in August 2023. David Doole was third for $255, and Sean Denny fourth for $195 — his second cash in five Eight Deuce tournaments, both of them fourth places.

Lance Cain bubbled in fifth. Eight players made two knockouts each on a night when the eliminations were spread unusually evenly — except at the top, where the winner took seven of the twenty-three.

Joe Johnson, who won the season’s first three tournaments, rebought and finished fourteenth. Justin Vaughn was the first player out after ninety-nine minutes.

The bigger picture

Nineteen players and five rebuys made $1,400, the second-biggest pool of the season and of the league’s history — only February’s $1,460 has beaten it.

Six tournaments, four winners. Joe Johnson still leads on 397.80, a hundred and sixty-eight ahead of Andrew Shier, and he has five scores where most of the field has six.
